Aasiaat museum was established in 1978 in the late parliament member Frederik Lynge house. In 2000 the museum was moved to the colonial adminitrators house. The museum is a historical museum and its work field is mainly Egedesminde colonial period and Aasiaat Municipality history. Museum has a significant historical local collection. The museum participated in 1989 and 1990 in archaeological study which found a large number of settlements from the palæo-Eskimo cultures. In the summer of 1993 began an archaeological excavation project, which found several stone tools from Dorset I and II culture. Aasiaat museum is an accredited museum and operated by Qaasuitsup Kommunia.
